一、Characteristics of wide grinding wheel

1. Wide grinding wheel grinding requirements for machine tools

(1) Grinding wheel spindle system has better rigidity, and spindle rotation accuracy is higher. Due to the large grinding force of wide grinding wheel and the heavy weight of grinding wheel, the spindle system is required to be rigid to avoid deformation of the spindle. In order to make the spindle have better rigidity, the extension of the spindle cantilever should be as short as possible, and choose a reasonable bearing structure. Using static bearing can obtain better rigidity and turning precision and easy to start.

(2) The head frame and tail frame shall be sufficiently rigid. The headstock spindle and tailstock sleeve should be suspended as short as possible so as to choose the center with larger diameter and shorter suspension. In order to make the rigidity of the head bracket and tail bracket equal, different size of the center can be selected, and make the pressure spring of the tail bracket sleeve have enough compression force.

(3) Grinding wheel frame guide shall be rigid enough. Proper guide structure should be selected, suitably lengthen the guide of the grinding wheel frame and increase the span of the guide of the grinding wheel frame, while improving the manufacturing precision of the guide.

(4) Rationally select the power of the grinding wheel drive motor. Wide wheel has large grinding force and is mainly used in mass production. The power of grinding wheel drive motor should be kept reasonable margin.

2. Requirements for wide grinding wheel

The selection principle of ordinary grinding wheel is basically applicable to wide grinding wheel. In addition, uniform wear on the width of the wheel should be taken into account, so the wide wheel grinding should focus on the selection of the wheel with uniform wear and shape accuracy.

Wide grinding wheel should be made of abrasive with good toughness and good shape retention, such as chrome corundum, brown corundum, etc. Because of the heavy grinding load, the grain size of F46 is often chosen for rough grinding, and F60 for fine grinding. The hardness of wide grinding wheel is very important. The workpiece is easy to burn and the metal cutting rate is low if the hardness is too high. If it is too soft, the shape will not hold well, and the consumption of grinding wheel will increase. According to experience, it is usually chosen within the range of J – L.
