What is a flap wheel?

A flapwheel and the related flap disk is an abrasive disk, used for the metal finishing, Normal simpler flat disks are made from a circular flat sheet of a coated abrasive. Unlike this, a flap wheel is made of multiple overlapping small pieces of flaps, bonded to a central hub.

Advantages:

1, the separate flaps make the workpiece grinding more evenly, rather than producing repeated identical scratches;

2, much more efficient; the wheel remains useful even when the flaps erode;

A flap disk can not only work on finishing and polishing, but also for stock removal and metal shaping;

The flexibility of a flap disc has the advantage of smoothing curved work and avoids the production of facets.
